SUMMARY:April 22 Safety Analytics Community – AI in Safety: Exploring What’s Possible and What’s Holding Us Back
DESCRIPTION:Join the Safety Analytics Community on Tuesday, April 22, 2026 at 11:00 AM CT for a panel discussion on, “AI in Safety: Exploring What’s Possible and What’s Holding Us Back,” including the the following panelists:\n– Todd Fetcho, Lead Coordinator-Performance Analysis – Southern Nuclear\n– Gary Rector, Senior Data Scientist – Salt River Project\nSession Description:\nArtificial Intelligence, Generative AI, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) are generating strong interest across utility organizations, including within safety teams. But many safety-focused AI efforts are not yet fully deployed or production-ready. Instead, they exist as ideas in the pipeline, pilot efforts, internal prototypes, or concepts still working their way through governance and cultural barriers.\nThis discussion will create space for an honest, peer-driven conversation about what utilities are exploring in safety analytics today. What ideas are teams experimenting with? What resistance are they facing from leadership, operators, IT, or compliance? What concerns around accuracy, trust, governance, or risk tolerance are slowing progress? And where do participants see the greatest opportunity for AI to improve safety outcomes.\nRather than focusing solely on polished success stories, this session will highlight lessons from experimentation, early-stage efforts, and organizational realities. Community members are encouraged to share both forward-thinking ideas and the practical challenges that come with introducing AI into safety-critical environments.\n \n*UAI Utility Members can register and access all nine of our Analytics Communities via our Community Page ( https://utilityanalytics.com/communities/ ). Not a part of the Safety Analytics Community and want to join this session? Please use our direct link here to request access. You will find the Teams meeting credentials to the upcoming meeting at the top of the feed on this page.
