Session Description:

This session will cover, AI Fundamentals, Core Methods: ML, DL, NLP, High-Impact Applications, Power Quality Events and System Integration.

We will explore the challenges T&D operators face and address how these can be solved with AI analysis of:
• Anomalies (Voltage Dip, Sag, Swell & Transients)
• Harmonics
• Unbalance
• Power consumption

Physics-informed ML feature processing
• Disturbance Segmentation
• Extraction over 400 features

Root Cause Analysis
• Disturbance type
• Underlying root cause
• Location, distance

Fault Prediction
• Complete view of fault and outage history
• Compare with fault patterns
• Risk of fault and outages within weeks
• Alarms, reports, and transparent explanations of upcoming faults, preceding outages

As many power quality (PQ) signatures precede or accompany developing faults: repeated shallow sags/dips, low-frequency (0–10 kHz) oscillations (control/mechanical stress), transients, and harmonics/interharmonics (heating, resonance). Digitalization of substations and AI fault prediction supports utilities in:
• Detecting & classifying events with IEC-aligned metrics
• Extracting features: depth/duration, phase step, recovery, spectral bins, recurrence rate
• Mapping to asset/topology → compute risk score over time
• Proactive handling of predicted faults (inspection, settings change)

We have brought client cases of real-world applications on transmission & distribution lines, to show the value of integrating AI Fault Prediction and power quality event analysis into the power grid system, and the impact digitalization of substation can have, in the short and long-term.
