Join the Analytics Architecture & Technology (AAT) Community on Thursday, June 18 at 1:00 PM CT for a presentation with Q&A/open discussion on, “SCOUT – A Consolidated Active Outage Platform for Southern Company” led by Blake Moore, Lead Software Engineer and Architect at Southern Company.
Session Description:
SCOUT is Southern Company’s consolidated active outage platform, designed to bring together disparate data sources into a single, timely view of operational conditions across multiple operating companies. This session will go beyond the end-user experience to explore the technical and architectural decisions behind SCOUT, including the system design, real-time data pipelines, and supporting infrastructure required to integrate data from Alabama Power, Georgia Power, and Mississippi Power. Attendees will gain insight into how the platform was built to balance performance, reliability, and scalability in a complex utility environment.
The presentation will also cover practical lessons learned around data governance, standardization, and cross-company integration, as well as the challenges of designing interfaces that serve diverse user groups. Throughout the session, the focus will be on the “how” and “why” of SCOUT’s development, highlighting trade-offs, constraints, and patterns that may be applicable to other large-scale, data-driven enterprise systems.
