November 19 AAT Community – The Data Platform at the AES US Utilities: A Trusted Foundation for AI, Analytics, and Reporting

Join the AAT Community on Thursday, November 19, 2026 at 1:00 PM CT for a presentation with Q&A/open discussion on, “The Data Platform at the AES US Utilities: A Trusted Foundation for AI, Analytics, and Reporting” led by Chat Hull, PhD, Head of Data Science & Analytics at AES.

Session Description:

Every modern utility is a data and technology company, but how each utility’s people use their data to drive better outcomes for their customers is what sets them apart. At AES US Utilities, they are building the Data Platform, a foundation of trusted, governed data that powers AI/ML models, agentic AI, and self-serve and fixed reporting across all functional areas of the business. The Data Platform is fundamentally changing how business users interact with their data, enabling them to “talk to their data” through conversational analytics, build their own reports, self-serve their own data requests, build AI agents they can trust, and ultimately make better, faster decisions with reduced dependence on technical teams.
The Data Platform has, as its base, raw data brought from transactional systems into the AES US Utilities analytical data warehouse. Those data are then modeled using verified business logic, resulting in a single source of truth for critical business metrics. Finally, a semantic model is created atop the modeled data. This semantic layer is the “secret sauce” that provides the grounding and guardrails for agentic AI, ensuring trusted interactions, consistent answers, and minimizing hallucinations.
Chat Hull will discuss the Data Platform architecture, show a demo of the self-service reporting and conversational analytics capabilities, and explain how they have linked Data Platform development with their Data Governance program to accelerate the adoption of both initiatives.
