Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is decommissioning two reactors and refurbishing four others at Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, creating a high-stakes need to manage limited space in the irradiated fuel bays while meeting stringent safety and regulatory requirements. Because spent-fuel movements within the bay are a critical evolution that must be minimized, every move must be planned within tight operational constraints, audited decision processes, and compliance expectations from regulators. In this session, we’ll share how OPG addressed these challenges with BayWatch, an AI-driven optimization and decision-support solution that coordinates complex fuel-bay movements using safe, explainable AI—improving planning efficiency while maintaining regulatory defensibility and operational confidence.
