September 16 Grid Analytics Community – Establishing a Data Driven EV Readiness Baseline: Early Transformer and Feeder Observations from Santee Cooper
Join the Grid Analytics Community on Wednesday, September 16 at 1:00 PM CT for a presentation with Q&A/open discussion on, “Establishing a Data Driven EV Readiness Baseline: Early Transformer and Feeder Observations from Santee Cooper” led by Andy Altman, Sr. Manager, Conservation & Energy Efficiency at Santee Cooper.
Session Description:
Santee Cooper has launched several electric vehicle initiatives since 2019, including a residential charger rebate program, a grant program for commercial customers interested in EV investment, and EV specific rates designed to encourage off peak charging for residential customers. Over the same period, the utility has made progress in identifying where EVs are connected to the system, when charging occurs, and how much energy is consumed. Although adoption in Santee Cooper’s direct serve territory remains relatively low, with fewer than 4,000 EVs across approximately 220,000 residential and commercial meters, this early stage offers an opportunity to establish a data driven baseline. This session will explore how Santee Cooper is monitoring EV adoption, the impacts currently observed at the transformer and feeder levels, how analytics are being used to assess emerging EV load effects, and how these insights will help inform future distribution system planning as EV adoption grows.
