May 20 Natural Gas Community – In-House Development and Deployment of an AI-Powered Gas Detection Algorithm for Customer Homes
Join the Natural Gas Community on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 11:00 AM CT for a presentation with Q&A/open discussion on “In-House Development and Deployment of an AI-Powered Gas Detection Algorithm for Customer Homes” led by Guilherme Maia, PhD, Lead Data Scientist and Dara Zirlin, PhD, Senior Data Scientist at Ameren.
Session Description:
This session explores Ameren’s comprehensive approach to developing and deploying an AI-based high-volume gas detection algorithm for residential customers. The solution enables proactive identification of high-volume gas leaks, significantly reducing the risk of hazardous conditions while equipping field crews with critical information before they arrive on the scene. We’ll cover the project’s background and evolution, including our strategic collaboration with gas operations teams to scope and define requirements. Attendees will learn about our pioneering AI application and the key components of our AIOps framework that enabled successful deployment at scale. This project was nationally recognized with the Research and Innovation Award from the American Gas Association (AGA).
