New partnership expands open data opportunities for simplified data landscapes.

SAP and Google Cloud have announced a significant expansion of their partnership, introducing an extensive open data offering aimed at simplifying data landscapes and unlocking the potential of business data.

This open data offering allows customers to create an end-to-end data cloud that brings together data from various sources across the enterprise landscape using the SAP Datasphere solution and Google’s data cloud. This integration enables businesses to have real-time visibility of their entire data estates and maximize the value of their investments in Google Cloud and SAP software.

“Bringing together SAP systems and data with Google’s data cloud introduces entirely new opportunities for enterprises to derive more value from their full data footprints,” said Christian Klein, CEO and Member of the Executive Board of SAP. “SAP and Google Cloud share a commitment to open data and our extended partnership will help break down barriers between data stored in disparate systems, databases and environments. Our customers not only benefit from the business AI already built into our systems, but also from a unified data foundation.”

Data plays a crucial role in digital transformation and AI development. Organizations often invest significant resources in building complex data integrations, custom analytics engines, and AI and natural language processing (NLP) models to derive value from their data. SAP Datasphere combines critical data from SAP systems with data from across the enterprise landscape, regardless of its origin. With the open data sharing between SAP software data and non-SAP data on Google Cloud from any other data source, organizations may be able to accelerate their digital transformation with a well-defined data foundation that retains complete business context.

“SAP and Google Cloud now offer an incredibly comprehensive and open data cloud, providing a foundation for the future of enterprise AI,” said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud. “Few resources are as important to digital transformation as data. By deeply integrating SAP software data and systems with our data cloud, customers will be able to utilize our analytics capabilities as well as advanced AI tools and large language models to find new insights from their data.”

Open DataThe new open data offering is said to provide customers with several benefits, including:

  • Real-time access to critical data: The integration between SAP Datasphere and Google Cloud BigQuery allows customers to access their most critical data in real time without duplication.
  • Simplified data landscapes: SAP and Google Cloud have collaborated on powerful data replication and federation technologies, enabling businesses to integrate SAP software data with BigQuery environments and leverage leading data analytics capabilities from both SAP and Google Cloud using federated queries.
  • Trusted insights with advanced AI models: Businesses can utilize Google’s AI and ML services to train models on data from SAP and non-SAP systems.
  • Advanced analysis capabilities: Organizations can leverage the analytics capabilities of the SAP Analytics Cloud solution in Google Cloud to analyze financial and business outcomes, improving the accuracy of models.
  • Joint solutions for sustainability: SAP and Google Cloud are exploring opportunities to combine SAP Datasphere with broader ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) data sets and insights powered by Google Cloud.
  • Global use of SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) on Google Cloud: SAP plans to expand regional support for SAP BTP and SAP HANA Cloud on Google Cloud, including support for SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP Datasphere in five new regions this year with a total of eight supported regions by 2025.

The open data partnership also involves joint go-to-market initiatives for large-scale data projects, enabling customers to adopt data products from both companies.
